So early on the 2nd May 2011 (very early for me!!) 'in the merry morning of May' off to the Obby Oss Festival I went. The train journey was stunning and even the bus transfer near Bodmin all felt part of the fun of the day.
Getting closer and seeing people in their whites with either their red or blue sashes it was a bit like stepping back in time. And it also kept reminding me a little of the Wicker Man (although less dark).
Padstow is heaving with people on May Day and after a lot of waiting around the Osses and their entourage arrived. It was quite a spectacle to behold and be part of.
The Osses (red and blue) emerge from their stables and are escorted through the streets to the may pole where they are teased and danced around and sung at by the reds and blues - the people of Padstow - who complete this ongoing ritual until the Osses go to bed.
